Lifespan Welcomes Denver Public Schools ACE group for Job Tour

DPS Student Tour of LifespanFebruary 19, 2015. Denver, Colorado. IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) firm Lifespan teamed up with Denver Public Schools’ ACE Career Paths Program to give students a tour of its warehouse facility today. Fourteen special needs students from five area schools attended the tour, which took them through the ITAD process.

Lifespan Director of Operations Matt Hansen guided the students from receiving to sorting and onto demanufacturing and testing computer equipment. Students handled pieces of equipment and inquired about data security—how data is removed from computer hard drives. They gazed at the stacks of computer equipment and were curious where it all comes from. Hansen explained that Lifespan works with organizations like hospitals and corporations to resell and recycle the computers they are finished using.

The students—some of whom met the age requirement of 18 years to work at Lifespan—asked for business cards and expressed strong interest in job opportunities at the company. Hansen fielded questions involving shift hours, work attire and attendance. “We want hardworking people on our team,” said Hansen. “Our technicians are happy to come to work here.”

The students also enjoyed seeing how computers are broken down for their parts in one section of the warehouse. Hansen explained each component of the inside of a computer and students looked at a nearby chart of these materials, interacting and getting a hands-on experience.

The ACE Career Paths program at DPS equips special needs and “at risk” high schoolers with tools they can use post-graduation to pursue post-secondary education, enter the workforce or get technical training for specialized jobs.

The job tour showed the ACE students opportunities that are available in their community. Hansen believed the tour was a success. “They were very engaged,” said Hansen. “It is good for the students to have a career path and get real-life exposure for their futures.”

Lifespan was happy to welcome ACE for the tour of its facility and invites others in the community. Lifespan provides IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) services to enterprises and organizations. These include secure, certified data destruction, refurbishing and remarketing, and certified recycling.
